Chinese Visa Application Guidelines for Nigerian Citizens

Nigeria citizens who hold diplomatic or official passport are exempted from visas and may stay up to 30 days in the mainland of China.
Please choose to apply for the appropriate visa category as indicated below according to your purpose of visit to China.
Visa Categories | Description of Visa |
C | Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships. |
D | Issued to those who intend to reside in China permanently. |
F | Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, inspection tours and other non-commercial activities. |
J1 | Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. |
J2 | Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. |
L | Issued to those who intend to go to China as a tourist. |
M | Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities. |
Q1 | Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizen(s) or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend a long-term visit to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. "Family members" refers to spouses, parents, parents-in-law, sons or daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, maternal grandparents, grandchildren, and maternal grandchildren. |
Q2 | Issued to those who intend a short-term visit to their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. |
R | Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China. |
S1 | Issued to those who intend to go to China to have a long-term visit to the foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law, or to those who intend to go to China for other private affairs. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. |
S2 | Issued to those who intend to have a short-term visit to their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private matters. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. "Family members" refers to spouses, parents, parents-in-law, sons or daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, maternal grandparents, grandchildren, and maternal grandchildren. |
X1 | Issued to those who intend to study in China for a long-term period of more than 180 days. |
X2 | Issued to those who intend to study in China for a short-term period of no more than 180 days. |
Z | Issued to those who intend to work in China. |
Here are the documents you shall prepare before submission of visa application:
I. Basic Documents
1. Passport
Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, and a photocopy of the passport data page.
2. Visa Application Form and Photo
One Visa Application Form filled on-line (https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn) and printed, one copy of Confirmation of Online Visa Application, one recently-taken color passport photo (white background), front view, bare-head.
II. Supporting Documents
C Visa
A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China.
D Visa
The original the Confirmation of Foreigners' Permanent Status in China issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.
We kindly remind you that:
Holders of D Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the intended places of residence for foreigners’ residence permits.
F Visa
1. Relevant Invitation or Certificate Letter
① Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation and an Invitation Letter issued by an inviting individual(entity) in China. Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation should be processed by the inviting individual (entity) in China. Non-first time visitors are exempted from providing Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation.
② The above mentioned letter should contain:
a. Information on the invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.
b. Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, dates of arrival and departure, place(s) to be visited, itinerary, relationship with the inviting individual (entity), and financial source for expenditure;
c. Personal information on the inviting individual (entity): full name, contact number, address, seal of the Entity, and signature of the inviting individual(s) or legal representative(s) etc.;
d. The inviting individual (entity) should clearly promise that the applicant(s) shall abide by the laws and regulations while staying in China, and exit China as planned.
2. A bank statement for the past six months of the applicant(s) or the company.
3. The applicant's itinerary to China, including paid air tickets and hotel orders.
4. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
J1 Visa
1. Visa Notification Letter issued by the Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P.R.China..
2. Applicants should contact the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China in advance and complete relevant formalities.

Holders of J1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.
J2 Visa
1. Visa Notification Letter issued by the Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P.R.China or other authorized entities in China.
2. Applicants should contact the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China in advance and complete the relevant formalities.
L Visa
Nigerian Citizens are requested to join a tourist group (more than 5 people), which should summit a tourism invitation letter issued by an authorized travel agency in China.
M Visa
1. Relevant invitation or certification letters:
① Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation, and an invitation letter issued by an inviting individual (entity) in China. Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation should be processed by the inviting individual (entity) in China. Non-first time visitors are exempted from providing Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation.
② The above mentioned letter should contain:
a. Personal information on the invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.
b. Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, dates of arrival and departure, place(s) to be visited, itinerary, relationship with the inviting individual (entity)), and financial source for expenditure;
c. Information on the inviting individual ( entity): full name, contact number, address, seal of entity, and signature of the inviting individual(s) or legal representative(s) etc.;
d. The inviting individual ( entity) should clearly promise that the applicant(s) shall abide by the laws and regulations while staying in China, and exit China as planned.
2. A bank statement for the past six months of the applicant(s) or the company.
3. The applicant's itinerary to China, including paid air tickets and hotel orders.
4. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
Q1 Visa
1. For family reunion, the following documents are required:
① An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:
a. Personal Information on the Invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.
b. Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the invitee and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures;
c. Information on the inviting individual: full name, contact number, address, signature of the inviting individual, etc..
② Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and China permanent residence permit of the inviting individual;.
③ Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual (Consular authentication is required for the certificates of relationship not issued in China).
④ Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
2. For foster care, the following documents are required:
① The original foster entrustment notarization issued by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China in Nigeria or Foster Care Power of Attorney notarized and authenticated in Nigeria or in China.
② Original and photocopy of the consignor's passport(s) and the original proof of kinship with the foster child (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship or notarized certification of kinship).
③ A letter of consent on foster care issued by the trustee who has agreed to provide foster care services and a photocopy of the ID of the trustee.
④ A photocopy of the certificate indicating the permanent residence status abroad of the parent(s) when the child was born, provided that either or both parents of the child are Chinese citizens.
We kindly remind you that:
Holders of Q1 Visa should, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits. It is recommended to prepare police character certificate in Nigeria in advance and apply for consular authentication (except for minors).
Q2 Visa
1. An invitation letter by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:
① Personal information on the invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.;
② Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, dates of arrival and departure, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures;
③ Information on the inviting individual: full name, contact number, address, signature of the inviting individual, etc..
2. Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the inviting individual.
3. Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between the applicant and the inviting individual.
4. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
R Visa
The applicant should submit relevant certification in accordance with relevant regulations, and meet the relevant requirements of the competent authorities of the Chinese government on high-level talents and individual with special skills urgently needed by China, and the Confirmation Letter for High Level Foreign Talents.
S1 Visa
1. Photocopy of the inviting individual passport and residence permit.
2. An invitation letter from the inviting individual which contains:
① Personal information on the invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.;
② Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures etc.;
③ Information on the inviting individual: name, contact number, address, signature, etc..
3. Original and photocopy on certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship between applicants and inviting individual (Relationship certification issued outside China must apply for consular authentication).
4. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
For other private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs should be provided as required by the consular officer.

Holders of S1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners’ residence permits. A consular-authenticated police character certificate in Nigeria is required (except for minors).
S2-Visa
1. Photocopy of the inviting individual’s passport and residence permit.
2. An invitation letter issued by the inviting individual which contains:
① Personal information on the invitee: full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number,etc.;
② Information on the planned visit: purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) of visiting, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures, etc.;
③ Information on the inviting individual: full name, contact number, address, signature of the inviting individual, etc..
3. Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship between the applicant and the inviting individual.
4. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
For private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs should be provided as required by the consular officer.
X1-Visa
1. Elementary, junior/senior high school students should submit:
① Confirmation Form for Elementary Stage Students Study in China;
② Proof of funds(2500 dollars/year or Scholarship certificate);
③ Physical Examination Form;
④ Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
2. University students should submit:
① Photocopy of Admission Notice issued by the host institute in China.
② Photocopy of Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or Form JW202).
③ Proof of final academic qualification (should be authenticated by the Ministry of Education of Nigeria)
④ Proof of funds(2500 dollars/year or Scholarship certificate).
⑤ Physical Examination Form.
⑥ Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
3. Chinese government aided students participating in academic degree education projects should submit:
① Original Admission Notice issued by the host institute in China
② Original Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or Form JW202).
③ The original Invitation Letter (*** Academic Degree Education Project) in a unified format issued by the Training Center of Ministry of Commerce of P.R.China.
④ Physical Examination Form.
⑤ Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
4.The applicants to sit examination for medical internship, who intend to take the Chinese Medical Qualification Examination, should submit:
① Application Form for Medical Internship
② The original Medical Internship Notification Letter issued by the host institute in China.
We kindly remind you that:
Holders of X1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners’ residence permits. A consular-authenticated police character certificate in Nigeria is required.
X2-Visa
1. Admission Notice issued by the host institute in China.
2. Information Form for Foreign Students’ Short-term Visit (Form DQ).
3. Proof of final academic qualification (should be authenticated by the Ministry of Education of Nigeria)
4. Proof of funds ( 2500 dollars/year or Scholarship certificate).
5. Physical Examination Form.
6. Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R. China.
Z-Visa
1. Working in China for no more than 90 days:
① For short-term commercial performances, submission is required:
Approval documents from the culture and tourism administrative department and Certificate of Short-term Employment for Foreigners Working in China.
② Complete the following short-term work tasks upon entry:
a. Work related to a certain technology, scientific research, management and guidance, etc;
b. Nigerian coaches and athletes go to sports institutions in China for trial training;
c. Shooting films (including advertising films, documentaries, educational films, promotional films, etc.);
d. Participating in fashion show (including car models, shooting print advertisements, etc.),
Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit in the P.R.China (no more than 90 days).
2.Working in China for more than 90 days:
① Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit in the P.R.China (More than 90 days), .
② Invitation letter or proof letter from the receiving institute.
③ Proof of income or bank statements for the past six months.
④ Other materials considered necessary by the Embassy or Consulate General of P.R.China.
We kindly remind you that:
Holders of Z Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits. A consular-authenticated police character certificate in Nigeria is required.
III. Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China
1. Please visit the website of the Immigration Department of Hong Kong SAR of China (https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/index.html) for detailed information about the entry visa, such as type, application documents, application process, etc.
2. For visa applicants, please submit the application materials directly to Immigration Department of Hong Kong SAR of China through email, or submit the documents to China Visa Application Center (CVAC). Communication fee for Hong Kong visa is 7500 Naira per person.
Kindly recommend: it will be faster and more convenient if you apply online.
IV. Visa for Macao SAR of China
For detailed visa requirements and updates, please visit the website of Public Security Police Force of Macao SAR of China: www.fsm.gov.mo/psp/eng/main.html.
For visa applicants, please submit the documents to China Visa Application Center (CVAC). Communication fee for Macao visa is 7500 Naira per person.
V. Special Reminder
1. If necessary, the consular officer may require the applicant to provide other supporting documents or supplementary materials.
2.The consular officer has the final decision on the visa issuance, validity, duration of stay and number of entries according to specific condition of the applicant.
VI. Visa application process, processing time, location, approval time and fees
1. Regular Visa Application:
① Process: Visa applicants can go directly to CVAC during working hours to submit application materials, pay fees, and reserve fingerprints. Regular visa applicants are required to complete the China Online Visa Application form (website: https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn), and print it.

4. Fees:
① Nigerian regular passport holders who are issued diplomatic and official visas are exempted from visa fees.
② Visa fees for Nigeria citizen to apply for a Chinese visa (service fees charged by China Visa Application Centre are excluded):
Single entry 10,500 Naira per person
Double entry 15,750 Naira per person
Multiple entries for 6 Month 21,000 Naira per person
Multiple entries for 12 months 31,500 Naira per person
③ Visa Fees for Nigeria citizen for visas of Hong Kong SAR of China, and Macao SAR of China:
