Ambassador Xu Jianguo Attends the AU Meeting in Abuja

On October 29, at the invitation of the African Union, Ambassador Xu Jianguo attended the 207th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the AU as the Chinese delegate.

Nigerian President Mr. Umaru Yar'Adua, AU Commissioner Mr. Jean Ping, former President of South Africa Mr. Thabo Mbeki, UN under-secretary-general Mr. Alain le Roy, delegates from the 15 members of PSC, and other countries and organizations were present at the meeting, which was to deliberate the report submitted by the AU High-level Panel on Darfur (AUPD) Chaired by Mr. Mbeki.

In his speech, Ambassador Xu reiterated China's support to the AU's role in addressing the Darfur issue, appreciated the efforts made by the AUPD, advised that the Sudanese government be properly communicated to, and stressed that China would continue to "work together with the AU to push for an early solution to the Darfur issue, so that the peace, stability and development in Sudan can be finally realized."
