On April 1, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Chairman of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions. Also present at the meeting were Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business; Senator Imasuen B. Neda, Chairman of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions; and Senator Kelvin Chukwu.

Ambassador Yu noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 55 years ago, China–Nigeria relations have continuously reached new heights. In particular, since President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to China in 2024, our cooperation across various fields has yielded tangible results. He added that this year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, during which the country will further expand high-standard opening-up. China is set to implement a zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic ties, a move that will help Nigeria advance its “Renewed Hope” agenda. The Chinese Embassy stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Nigerian Senate to promote deeper and more substantive development of bilateral relations.
Senator Alli expressed appreciation for China’s long-standing and strong support for Nigeria’s agricultural development. He noted that Nigeria is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China to advance agricultural technology, enhance food security, and better serve Nigeria’s economic and social development.
