On April 15, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Ambassador Anthony Alonwu, Director of International Organization Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.

Ambassador Yu stated that the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has continued to score new achievements under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Tinubu. Both sides firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns, which embodies a high degree of strategic mutual trust. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China stands ready to further strengthen communication and coordination with Nigeria in international and multilateral affairs, jointly uphold the authority of the United Nations, better safeguard the common interests of both countries and the Global South, as well as achieve sustained and high-quality development of China-Nigeria relations.
Ambassador Alonwu spoke highly of Nigeria-China relations, thanked China for firmly supporting Nigeria to play a greater role on the international stage, reaffirmed Nigeria’s adherence to the one-China principle, and expressed readiness to further strengthen coordination with China in multilateral affairs to continuously elevate Nigeria-China relations to a new height.
