On August 13, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai and Dr. Vincent Isegbe, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), signed in Abuja the Protocol on Inspection and Quarantine Requirements for Wild Aquatic Products to be Exported to China between the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ambassador Yu said that the signing of the Protocol is an important institutional arrangement for implementing China’s zero-tariff policy for African countries. It provides a clear basis for the inspection and quarantine of Nigerian wild aquatic products exported to China, and will help further expand agricultural trade between China and Nigeria, promote the development of Nigeria’s fisheries sector and increase its foreign exchange earnings through exports. It will also inject new impetus into the deepening of China-Nigeria economic and trade cooperation.

Dr. Isegbe said that Nigeria welcomes China’s further expansion of imports of high-quality Nigerian agricultural and aquatic products. The Nigerian side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to properly implement the relevant inspection and quarantine requirements, facilitate the entry of more distinctive Nigerian agricultural products into the Chinese market, and ensure that the outcomes of bilateral cooperation better benefit the peoples of both countries.
