On October 20, 2026, Ambassador Yu Dunhai paid an official visit to Nasarawa State upon invitation, during which he met with the Emir of Lafia, Muhammad I.

Ambassador Yu commended His Royal Highness Emir Muhammad I for his commitment to advancing China-Nigeria friendship, noting that both China and Nigeria are ancient civilizations with shared cultural values. China attaches great importance to the unique role played by traditional leaders in Lafia in the development of bilateral relations and stands ready to work with Nigeria to strengthen local and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, so as to contribute to the sustained high-quality development of China-Nigeria relations. 

His Royal Highness Emir Muhammad I spoke positively of China’s development achievements and thanked China for its contributions to Nigeria’s economic and social development, especially that of Nasarawa State. He said that the Lafia Emirate Council is ready to continue to deepen practical cooperation and local exchanges with China, so that the fruits of cooperation can benefit the peoples of both countries.

His Royal Highness Emir Muhammad I held a Durbar traditional ceremony in honor of Ambassador Yu, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Ambassador Yu donated daily necessities to the Lafia community through the Lafia Emirate Council, which was warmly received by the local people.
